Glass Market Cafe : Corning Museum of Glass 2011-2012

The renovations and expansions to the 350-seat Glass Market Cafe at the Corning Museum of Glass included over 7500 sq. ft. of public areas and 2300 sq. ft. of new servery, kitchens, and ancillary support spaces. A new servery and a special events mezzanine were added, featuring a cantilevered glass canopy and suspended aluminum soffits. Specular materials were used throughout, with formal elements interwoven into the existing infrastructure.

Spatial division is gained through the positioning of custom-designed glass screens, adding function, seclusion, and intimacy within the large open plan. Each screen explores borosilicate scientific glass transparency and translucency by combining clear class rods, hollow glass tubes, ribbed glass tubes, and clear glass frit-filled tubes.

Completed within a construction period of 22 weeks, the project included full architectural, interior design, structural, and mechanical engineering services.
HAIGHArchitects acted as design architects in association with HuntAES as architects of record.
